Nolan: "Mommy, my leg hurts."
Me: "What happened to it?"
Nolan: "Ummm, I hurt myself."
Me: "What did you do?"
Nolan: "Ummmm..." (long pause) "I accidentally jumped off of Talon's bed."
After seeing the look on my face, and knowing he had just tattled on himself, his leg suddenly didn't hurt so bad. All he wanted to do was go play, and hoped we could mutually forget about the whole thing!

Heard Around the House
Anthony was on the computer, and Talon saw some football players that were wearing pink shoes, socks, sweat bands, etc.
He informed us, "They wear pink for dress cancer!"

Coversations Around the House
We've had a few beautiful days lately. The weather's been in the low 70's at times (pretty good for Oregon in the Fall, I'd say). I was trying to be discreet, and drop a thought by Anthony without the kids being aware. Note: they were all busy doing their own thing, and no one even seemed to be within ear shot.
Me: "Hey, we could take the kids to the P-A-R-K when we get done running errands."
Talon (from the other room, starts jumping up and down and shouting): "The PARK! Yeah, I wanna go to the park!"
Me: "I guess we're going to have to stop spelling things to keep a secret."
This is going to be difficult- especially for me. I resort to spelling things a lot to keep the kids from knowing what we're talking about. Pretty soon we're gonna look like ball coaches throwing around signals, just to communicate in front of the kids.
And another thing....
Why is it that you can holler at them from the next room over, without even a door to divide the rooms, use their name, and they can't hear a word you are saying.
Yet, you whisper something at the opposite end of the house, from a different floor, and they respond like they are standing right next to you. It drives me insane!
Okay. There. I'm done ranting now.

Kaitlyn is always talking about how she's "going to be a nurse just like Mommy" when she grows up. This was Daddy and Kaitlyn's conversation a couple of days ago...
Daddy: "You know Sissy, when you get bigger and get married, I don't want you to move far away. That way, I can come and visit you whenever I want to."
Kaitlyn: (No reply)
Daddy: "You gonna let me come visit you whenever I want?"
Kaitlyn: "Well, I'm probably going to be too busy at the hospital."
Daddy: "Oh, you're going to be working as a nurse, like Mommy?"
Kaitlyn: (Pushing out her stomach and rubbing her hands around it) "No, I'm gonna be there getting all the babies out of my tummy!"

Oh, the things kids say!
We went to Costco yesterday afternoon, and as we left the parking lot, Talon hollers, "Mom, look! There's 'We Are Babies'!
Completely confused, I looked around. There it was, across the street....
I said, "Talon, that's 'Babies R Us'"!
He threw his head back, rolled his eyes, and in his sheepish way, said, "Oh, man! I always get stuff confused!".
Yes, but it makes for a good laugh! The thing is, he is always correcting the other kids for saying things wrong, yet he is the one that always gets tongue-tied, and says things backwards. Oh, the irony!

We had a BBQ today for Labor Day, and our friends, Christie and Kylie came over. Our kids know that they have to eat their hamburger before they can fill up on chips and dessert. Kaitlyn is such a little mother when it comes to the other kids. They were all sitting at their table, and Kylie (who's almost 8) picked up a chip to put it in her mouth. Kaitlyn gasped in disbelief, and with a shocked look on her face, asked, "You're going to eat that FIRST???".

Kaitlyn is such a little smartie pants sometimes. I was looking around for the camera, so I could take a video of Natalie crawling up the stairs. I asked Kaitlyn, "Hey, sis, do you know where the camera's at?". She wrinkled up her nose, and said, "No, I wasn't around when you losed it!".
Little booger!

Talon Moment
Talon is so excited about football season. He's been wanting to wear his Russell Wilson jersey all the time, and is constantly running plays in the backyard and front room.
He informed me a couple of days ago, "Mom, if Russell Wilson gets hurt, or decides not to be the quarterback for the Seahawks, I would probably do it!".
I chuckled, "You would, huh? You'd be willing to do that for the Seahawks?"
Talon, running off to practice his pass juuuuuuust in case he were to get called on... "Yeah, I would!".
It popped his bubble a bit when daddy informed him that they have THREE quarterbacks on the team, and they would probably call on one of them to be backup.
It's so nice of him to be willing to take one for the team though!

More Talon Moments
Talon got a new fireman's play set for his birthday. Included in the set was a pair of eye goggles. Talon likes to don his gear, and run around the house fighting fires and being a hero. A couple of days ago, Talon walked into the room, and Anthony noticed he had marks on the side of his nose, and on his cheek.
Anthony: "Talon, where'd you get those marks?"Talon: "Oh, it's from my gobblers."
Anthony (laughing hysterically): "Your gobblers?"
Talon: "Yeah, my fireman gobblers!"
Anthony: "You mean your goggles!"
Talon: "Uh, yeah. It's from my goggles."
-----------------------------------------------
Kaitlyn loves to give Daddy back rubs and foot massages. He goes on and on about how good it feels and how sweet she is for giving him a massage. Talon, very competitive, and not wanting to be outdone by Sissy, decided to join in and give Daddy a leg massage.
Talon: "Man, Daddy, your sheep are bigger than my hands!"Anthony: "My sheep? Do you mean my calves?"
Talon, starting to giggle uncontrollably: "Oops! I mean calves. Good thing I didn't say 'horse'!"
Oh, this kid! The stuff he comes up with....

Bug Bites
Mr. Nolan-bug is a really funny kid! He is constantly coming up with the most hilarious things to say. I don't know where he gets it. (Yes I do. From his Daddy!) His vocabulary has expanded like crazy over the past couple of months. He has such a natural sense of humor, and is constantly keeping us in stitches.
This little conversation between us just cracked me up. He has started realizing that he really loves to bite. (I hear his Daddy was also that way!)
Me (after I kissed him and he tried to bite me): "Don't bite me!"
Nolan: "Why you tew me not to bite you?"
Me: "Because it hurts. I don't like it when you bite me."
Nolan: "But I wike to bite you. Can you tew me I can bite you?"
This kid does not give up!

I got Kaitlyn dressed for church this morning, and she wanted to wear a sweater. I told her she could wear her black, fir-trimmed shrug. I helped her put it on, and she had to run and show Daddy.
Kaitlyn: "Look, Daddy, I'm wearing my new dress and my slug!"
Me: "Sissy, it's called a 'shrug', not a slug!"
Kaitlyn: "Oh, yeah."

Dinner Conversation
Talon loves football- especially the Seattle Seahawks, and is a huge Russell Wilson fan. (For those of you who don't know, he is their rookie quarter back). Talon runs through the house constantly throwing passes, catching passes, getting tackled, calling plays... he LOVES football. He reminds us frequently how he is "just like Russell Wilson".
You see the resemblance, don't you?!
When Talon first started playing the Wii, he loved Mario Bros. In fact, he asked that we call him 'Mario'. When Kaitlyn would call out his name, he would correct her... "No, I'm Mario. Can you please call me Mario, Sissy?"
Well, yesterday Anthony made the comment to me, "I wonder when Talon's gonna ask us to start calling him Russell Wilson". So last night at the dinner table we had a little conversation...
Me: "Talon, if you could name yourself, what would your name be?"Talon: "Nolan."
Me: "You like the name 'Nolan', huh?"
Talon: "Yeah!"
Me: "Kaitlyn, what would your name be if you could pick your name?"
Kaitlyn: "Kaitlyn!"
Me: "You like your name?"
Kaitlyn: "Yeah, it's pretty for me!"
I wasn't even going to ask Nolan, I figured he wouldn't understand. But he piped up immediately and said, "I be Suuuuuzie!"
Me: "Your name would be Suzie?"
Nolan: "Yep! I be Suzie!"
Needless to say, we had a good laugh. That kid doesn't miss a thing!

Being Mother's Day, Daddy and the kids took me out to Yogurt Shack for a treat today. As we pulled up and were getting ready to go in, a mom and her two young boys walked out of a store, and the boys were just wearing shorts and sandals- no shirts. Kaitlyn was in shock, and very loudly exclaimed, "Wooops! They're not wearing any shirts!!"
By the shock in her voice, she knew it HAD to have been an oversight on their part. After all, WHO in the WORLD would go outside without their shirt on?!?!

So to give a little background behind this story....
I had to go to the dentist a few weeks ago, so Anthony and the kids dropped me off for my appointment, then came back later to pick me up. It was a morning appointment, I had worked the night before (so I was exhausted), and the whole right side of my face was completely numb. When I got in the car, Anthony asked me a question, and it sounded funny when I talked, so he started laughing. He said I should turn around and smile at the kids, and I did. I then looked in the mirror, and found that only the left side of my face smiled. The other side was completely paralyzed. The kids thought that was just the funniest thing ever and kept asking me to talk to them and smile. We then stopped at Wendy's and I got a frosty- which was extremely hard to eat with no feeling in most of my face. So....
Yesterday, the kids and I got up and took Anthony to his dental appointment. When we were almost there, Kaitlyn pipes up from the back seat and says, "Daddy, we're gonna make fun of you when you get out of the dentist!". This cracked me up. Leave it to the kids to remember what the dentist is all about.
After we dropped him off, we were driving to the store to kill a little time. Talon's sensitive side must have kicked in, because in a sweet little voice he said, "Mommy, I'll try not to laugh at you and make fun of you anymore."
Kaitlyn, very matter-of-fact and not missing a beat... "Mama, I'm still gonna laugh at you. Daddy and me are still going to make fun of you!"
Oh, how I love these kids!

At times, I wish I could turn on a tape recorder for the entire day just to catch the funny things the kids say. Some days, they just keep us in stitches all day long. I try to remember the things they say so I can jot them down and put them in a memory book for them (and myself) to read when they get older. It just isn't quite as cute or funny on paper as it is when it comes out of their mouth. Not to mention their expression and voice inflections. This is a little something that happened last night, that I had to try so hard not to laugh at (at least where the kids could see!).
It was Labor Day, so we went to my parents in the evening for a picnic. We've had a small issue with Talon in that, when he gets to play the Wii at Grandpa and Grandma's, he throws a fit when he has to turn it off and we have to leave. We have warned him numerous times that, if he throws a fit and can't act like big boy, he will get grounded from our Wii when he gets home (This is something he dislikes very much!). So last night, I told Talon it was time to leave, and he proceeded to throw a fit. I told him he would be grounded when we got home if he didn't quit, but he still continued. When we got in the car, our conversation went something like this:
Kaitlyn: "Is Bubby gonna be in trouble?"
Me: "Kaitlyn, that is for Mommy and Daddy to decided. Don't worry about it. We don't let Bubby talk about you when you are in trouble."
I tried to lighten the situation a bit, and chat with the kids on the way home, but Talon was very quiet and pensive for a while, and didn't say much for about 10 minutes. Finally, he started talking. These days, he likes to ask how to spell various words, and asks what signs say when we go by.
Talon (seeing a few street signs in a row): "Mommy, what does that sign say?"
Me: "That sign says 'No Parking at any time'."
Kaitlyn then pipes up: "And THAT sign says 'You're grounded!'."
Me: "Kaitlyn, that's enough!"
I'm just glad it was dark in the car and the kids couldn't see me, because I had to laugh. It was hilarious!

While I was doing Kaitlyn's hair this morning, she kept moving her head around, so I said, "Kaitlyn Michelle, hold still!". A couple of seconds later, in a sweet little voice, she said, "I'm Sissy Achelle".
At breakfast we were discussing our names...
Me: "Kaitlyn, did you know Mommy's name is Candice Michelle? You were named Kaitlyn Michelle after me."
Talon: (Not wanting to be left out) "And what about my name?"
Me: " You were named after Uncle Shade. His name is Alfred Shade, Chantry is Chantry Shade, and you are Talon Shade. Pretty cool, huh?!"
Talon: "Yeah, and Chantry Shade is my cousin."
Kaitlyn: "And Lani Shade is MY cousin!"
Then after thinking for a second about what she had just said, she giggles....
Kaitlyn: "Oops, I mean Lani Achelle is my cousin!"

Talon and Nolan went to see the doctor today, so Anthony and Kaitlyn sat in the lobby. An older lady came through, commented on Kaitlyn, and Anthony told her they were waiting for her brothers to get done in the doctor’s office. She asked Anthony the ages of the kids, then asked Kaitlyn, “What’s your baby brother’s name?”.
She answered, “Baby Stinky!”.

Kaitlyn has a horrible habit of chewing on her fingernails and the end of her fingers. She does it so bad, she gets open sores that bleed, then cries because they hurt. We are constantly trying to get her to quit.
Last night we were walking through the store, I saw her chewing on her fingers, and I said, "Sissy, don't chew on your fingers." She replied, "I'm not. I was picking my nose!". (sigh!)
------------
I must admit, I have a bad habit myself. When I'm thinking about something and really focusing, I tend to pick at my lip. I come by it honestly... my mom does the exact same thing. It drives Anthony nuts, but I usually don't even realize I'm doing it. On our way home from the store last night, Anthony and I were discussing something. From the back, I hear Talon ask, "Mommy, are you chewing on your fingers?". I told him, "No, Talon, I was just picking at my lip.". Kaitlyn instantly pipes up and says, "Mommy, I not chewing on my pingers, I'n pitting at my wip!".
------------
Kaitlyn: "Mommy, I'n a good girl!"
Me: "Yeah, that's good, Sissy!"
Kaitlyn: "Daddy, I'n a good girl!"
Daddy: "Yeah. Do you like being a good girl?"
Kaitlyn: "No."

The kids always want eggs and cheese for breakfast. I don't even know why I ask. I always get the same answer. It's usually initiated by Talon, then echoed by Kaitlyn...
Me: "What do you guys want for breakfast?"
The kids: "Eggs and cheese, Mom, I want eggs and cheese!".
I thought I was asking a rhetorical question this morning, but I happened to ask Kaitlyn before Talon.
Me: "Sissy, do you want eggs and cheese for breakfast?"
Kaitlyn: (Shakes head vigorously) "No."
Me: "Do you want cereal?"
Kaitlyn: (Shakes head) "No."
Me: "What do you want to eat?"
Kaitlyn: "Ummm...(rolls eyes up) I want cancakes and hot gog!"
I love this girl. She cracks me up!!

We were riding in the car last night, and Kaitlyn was done drinking her juice, so she said, "Mommy, all done!". Anthony and I were talking, so I quickly reached back, took her juice cup from her, and turned back around in my seat. She waited a second, then said, "Mommy..." I looked back at her, and with an expectant look and smug smile she said, "...thank you, Sissy?". Oh, pardon me. I guess I forgot my manners. I should be honored that I get to hold her juice and pass it back when she calls for it. What a stinker!

A while ago, Kaitlyn started calling me "Mimi". She has become quite the little talker and strings long sentences together. She says some of the funniest things sometimes!
The other day we were riding in the car, and she pipes up and says, "Uh-Oh, Mimi, I sowwy... I poppers my diaper. I sowwy, Mimi!".
Sure enough, she had gone "poppers" in her diaper!
